Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

‘ Extraordinary ’ or ‘ Special ’ Ministers may give Communion to themselves, to other lay people, and to the sick and housebound. Special Ministers are appointed by the Parish Priest and commissioned by him for an indefinite period of time. They may serve only in the Parish for which they have been commissioned. They do not wear any distinctive liturgical vestments or emblem, but it is important that they dress in a neat and respectful manner

The duties of the Special Ministers in our parish include the following:

1. The distribution of Holy Communion at Mass.
   
   
2. In the absence of a Deacon, purification of the sacred vessels.
   
   
3. Taking Holy Communion to the sick and housebound.
   
   
4. In the absence of a Priest or Deacon, a Minister may be requested to lead a Service of the Word with Holy Communion.
   
   
5. In the absence of a Priest or Deacon, a Minister may be requested to expose the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration.
